Methanation pilots on the platform
METHAMAG® demonstrator
Teréga and Toulouse Tech Transfer (TTT) have signed an exclusive partnership for the joint development to maturity of an innovative technology created by the Laboratory of Nano-Object Physics and Chemistry (LPCNO – INSA Toulouse, CNRS and the University of Toulouse). This partnership confirms Teréga’s commitment to the acceleration of renewable gases, and its partnership-based innovation strategy, being based around the SATT Network.
The technology, called METHAMAG®, is a new methanation process based on the use of magnetic induction. It hopes to provide an answer to the challenges of storing renewable energy sources, while demonstrating energy performance that is vastly superior to that of other systems.
The aim is to provide a new industrial route for methane production from CO2 or a biogas.
Through the METHAMAG® pilot, we have succeeded in demonstrating the production potential for high-quality biomethane, compatible with injection into the grid, while keeping investment costs competitive. The process provides the conversion of CO2 into CH4 by hydrogenation, thus enabling the rollout of “Power-to-Gas” solutions based 100% on the storage of renewable energy sources.
The METHAMAG® technology, tested on the SOLIDIA Biogaz platform in 2023, brings practical solutions, accelerating the deployment of sustainable energy sources, through storage in the form of methane, into the existing gas grid.
